Nursery love

This is beautiful!

 Love it!!

I don't know how well the Stark antelope carpet would hold up in a kid's room though.

Oh, but isn't it pretty?!!?!?!

Ruffalo home

While organizing my office this week I came across an old stack of Domino mags (Boo Hoo!!) and rediscovered this oldie but goodie.

The home of actor Mark Ruffalo and his wife Sunrise has to be one of my all time favorites!

I love this dining room! Those chairs, the ceiling, that light fixture!! But when I first saw this picture I thought that wall definitely needed some art. FYI-If you scroll up to the first picture you can see that there was a piece of art on the wall...wonder why they took it down for this shot??!

How cute is their son and daughter's room?!!? I love those spindle beds!

So what do you think of this house? Love it? Hate it?

Ugh......and how badly do you miss Domino?????

Mega Desk

My desk is finally done!

"The Man" has dubbed it Mega Desk like from The Office.

Which by the way, there is NO video of online...I know I'm shocked too. So for those of you who haven't seen it you won't have any clue what I'm talking about.....moving on!

When we moved into our new house there were three hollow core birch closet doors in the garage. These are the real sturdy kind, probably original to our late 50's house. They were all the same size, six and a half by two feet.  Perfect size for a desk top!

I'm sure that you've seen these ClosetMaid storage solutions in a million stores.....I got mine at WalMart for $12 each (although we already owned two of them).

In the beginning I was just going to use one closet door for the desk top and four of the organizers (they are 12x12x31, since my closet doors are 2 feet deep I just had to stack 2 of them-front to back, it'll make more sense soon!)  for the "legs".  Here was the finished product:

It was sufficient, but after a few days I realized that I wasn't using the space in this room to my advantage. On to Plan B! My office is about twelve by twelve and a half so I figured since I have all of the materials (two more closet doors and two more organizers) why not "build" a wall to wall desk?

I painted everything high gloss white, I used this paint and SWEAR by it! Very easy to use and a VERY high gloss/lacquer look.
I had to have the closet doors cut down about 5 inches each but then it was time to assemble it all. I used 4" mending brackets to connect the organizers together. Then I just drilled 1 1/2 inch drywall screws up through the organizers and into the bottom of the doors.  The doors are such a tight fit on top that I didn't have to anchor them to wall at all. Here is what the end product looks like:

I know, those wires are so attractive! ; )
12 feet of workspace!!!! Which will come in handy later since we plan to homeschool.

I'm still looking for another chair to use on the other side of the desk and you can see that I have some touch ups to do as well.
Here you can see how I used the organizers one in front of the other:

This room still needs paint, all that white is a little clinical! I'll show the other side of the room soon....I still have a few projects to complete.

Quarantine

My poor, sweet Jude got a visit from Mr. Stomach Flu last night and he hasn't left yet.  : (   He's being such a trooper...this is the first time he's had the flu, which is always the worst. So I'll be MIA for a few days.

I finished my desk yesterday and will post pictures after our unwelcome guest leaves.

I'm praying that this doesn't make the rounds......I can't imagine having a 15 month old with the flu.

Pray for me, please!!

Bad Blogger!

Yep, that's me!!

Not only have we been super busy this week but my office is in total CHAOS right now.

I'm in the middle of building a desk...more on that later....so until I'm done with that my computer is on the floor. I should be done by the end of the week and then I will share pictures!

In other news, my parents left this morning to go visit my brother and his wife outside of Seattle. I so wish we were going, I'm missing them something awful and so are my boys!

They will be stopping at Ikea however and bringing two of these babies home for me.
They'll go under our dining room table, I'm planning on stitching them together lengthwise by hand. I've already done this once with three rugs that I bought at Ross for $2.99 each. Here they are under the table....you can see that they are way too small...but they did the job!

I've been looking for a new rug for awhile but I haven't fallen in love with anything. Well, not anything in my price range at least!    ; )  I'll be taking one of the pink rugs off to go in the doorway of our bedroom and the other two will go in the kitchen.

I also ordered a set of these.....
.....they came in today and let me tell you they are STUNNING in person!

They are 20x20, perfect for making pillows out of! Which I may or may not be doing....I'll let you know soon!

Paint!

Sorry I've been MIA for almost a week!

We've been super busy with life in general, so of course I choose now to start painting. The living room is done and I'm slowly making my way down the hallway now.

Here is the living room before (a few days after moving in).......

and after.............

On the gallery wall behind the TV I used a dark navy and a taupey gray on the other three walls (I always use WalMart paint BTW).

I also "made" a sofa table for behind the couch (which will either be getting reupholstered or slipcovered eventually). This couch is so much longer than the old one so we didn't have much room for end tables. It's just two old nightstands with some finish plywood on top.

I still need to paint the china cabinet/bar, make some pillows, reupholster the pair of blue chairs and get some bamboo shades for the windows.

However, "the list" is getting MUCH smaller!  : )

Yesterday my Aunt Caroline babysat Phin for me. I've blogged about her photography before but check this out......she decided to snap a few pictures while she had him.

Aren't they stunning!??!!!
I can't get over that last photo! My baby is SO NOT a baby anymore!!!

She took these beautiful pictures of us last fall.

Here is some of her recent work.

Check her out here and here!

Rocking chair redo

This rocking chair belonged to my Grandparents, my Mom and her four siblings were all rocked in it as babies, as were me and my cousins. When my Grandfather passed away in 2007 I inherited it, as I would be the next in line to have babies of my own. My Mom has a photo of it from sometime in the early 70's. The frame was painted pea green and it was upholstered in, of course a green print. It was later stripped and stained again and my Grandfather had it upholstered in this paisley fabric.
The upholstery was fine but needed an update and the wood was in perfect condition so I left it just as it was. (I had already started to pull off the welt cording)

I used a gray upholstery fabric from Fabricguru.com (have no clue who the manufacturer is sorry!). A while back  I got a HUGE ball of teal trim at the thrift store for $1 so I used that for the trim.

It looks great in Phin's room (which is almost done...paint and a few sewing projects are all that is left!)!

Hopefully it will withstand another three generations of babies being rocked to sleep, fed and cuddled in it!!
