Russel Wright Flair Arabesque

Get these at Prairie Dec Arts!

I just had to grab this cool listing to share with you from Etsy seller Steve of shop Prairie Dec Arts!  It's for  Russel Wright's Arabesque pattern in translucent Flair by Northern Melamine.  This design is fairly rare and hard to find, but is one of my favorites. Here you have  gold and blue swirls on translucent "eggshell" dishes, and oh so lovely

Snatch these at Prairie Dec Arts!

There are actually three more variations which, in my opinion, are not as lovely.

  • Brown and gold designs on translucent eggshell.
  • Blue and gold designs on solid white dishes.
  • Brown and gold designs on solid white dishes.

You can read more about Russel Wright's Flair here.

You may also enjoy these cool little shakers Steve has in his shop, go there now to grab 'em!

Quiet Time

Today is the Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
 (8 weeks after conception)

Psalm 139:13-16
" For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
(12 weeks after conception)

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
(16 weeks after conception)

Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be."
(22 weeks after conception)
"Fight against the kind of social stupor that gripped Nazi Germany — the feeling that the problem is so huge and so horrendous and so out of our control that I just can't be wrong to let it be. Use your imagination to see and feel what is really happening behind those sterile clinic doors.

If you could see each little handiwork of God and what it looks like when it is being crushed or poisoned or ...starved, you would say, this can't be happening! Civilized people do not do this! The children will not be saved and God's work will not be reverenced without an act of sustained sympathetic imagination. Otherwise it is out of sight, out of mind — just like Dachau, Buchenwald, Belsen, and Auschwitz. It just couldn't be happening. And so we act as if it isn't.

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, "Behold, we did not know this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your souls know it, and will he not requite man according to his work? (Proverbs 24:10–12)

Kitchen/Dining Plans

I found this old magazine pic this week, it's Leah Ball Steen's (Owner of Revival Home and Garden in Seattle) kitchen banquette.

I'm not totally sold on the table but I'm loving everything else!

I plan on doing a similar L shaped banquette in our dining room in the future. The plan is to move the dishwasher flush against the wall next to the sink instead of having the peninsula.

The cabinets on the right of the dishwasher aren't even functional anyway and it will open up the space more. The plan also includes new appliances....like I said this is a FUTURE plan! : )    The refrigerator that we have now is HUGE and sticks out way too far into the dining area. With a smaller counter depth fridge I can have a much bigger dining table and seat more than four people comfortably.

I plan to rip out that hideous faux rock, along with the carpet (the first time I typed that I spelled it crapet...I might as well have it's so gross! Kids + carpet in a dining area = All sorts of nastiness!) and have an L shaped banquette built running up the wall into the corner and under the window. It will run all the way to the base cabinet/dishwasher on the right.

Kind of like this (by Mary McDonald):

I think it will be beautiful and MUCH more functional, now to just wait and save!

Welcome to Plastic Land : The Gay Horse

Welcome to Plastic Land,

a fake world I created made of the best molded plastics ever. Here everyone gets along. You see, there are no fights over politics. No fights with the rulers of Plastic Land. They are all unpaid volunteers. The townspeople are happy to pay their taxes in plastic coin. The economy is good and there's plenty of plastic money that is housed in an authentic "Plasticville" bank.  When they run out, much like the real world, they just mold up some more.

One of the rulers in Plastic Land, Gigi the Clown. Buy him from DoNotDestroy on Etsy.

They've become Eco Friendly in Plastic Land. Waste products are re-molded into something else plastic so the land is really pretty here. The plastic robots who work in the factories (as the jobs are plentiful) have found a way to recycle pollutants from the air into plastic plant food. Plastic fish swim in plastic ponds and a plastic sun shines down upon the world of Plastic Land. Better yet, Plastic Land has not had to enforce or enact any real laws because everyone's so happy that crime is nill. Gigi the Clown is growing large because he hasn't had much crime to fight lately. In a top secret interview, Gigi hinted, "Sure,we do once in awhile have fake plastic fights or disagreements, but if anyone gets really harmed in Plastic Land, they go the Emergency Plastic Hospital and get all fixed up.  If they don't like the way they turned out, we just re-mold them into something else. No biggie."

Cowboy and Indians can be bought from DoNotDestroy on Etsy.

In Plastic Land you are free to be who you want. Never are there comments about your weight or what type of music you
listen to.  You can wear whatever you want when you want. Stay out as late as you want. Date whomever you want. There's no judging based on your plastic weight, chemical composition, color, make or model number, nationality or creed.

Won't you stay awhile with me in Plastic Land?

In fact, I think you were here once, when you were FIVE years old. Do you remember playing with your plastic toys unknowingly worried about the affairs of the real world?  Back then you didn't have to worry about work, or debt, or politics. You played with these little toys without a care in the world and in Plastic Land, it was all good. Oh how did any of us ever leave this place?

Welcome to reality: Innocence Lost.

Long Live the Plastics Fantastic.

Nursery light fixture

Just wanted to post a picture of the real light fixture that will be installed in baby # 3's nursery. Here are the moodboards again, featuring the most similar light fixture that I could find online.

And here is the real deal.

It's pretty dusty right now but it only cost, get this...............$3.50!!
I got it at my local ReStore!
(Please excuse my messy desk in the background!)

Here's a close up of all the pretty details.

Looking forward to getting things in the nursery started soon!

Plans for our master bedroom

Although it will be a while before we get around to sprucing up our bedroom I wanted to post what my plans are. You know just in case someone else does something similar before I get around to it. Then I can look back at this post and say, "See it WAS an original idea".    :)

Here is what our bedroom looks like right now, yes the closet doors need painting.

Stanley's side of the bed...........that dresser may get a makeover at some point. Faux painted inlaid bone perhaps??

Here is the reason it will take so long to get to our room......that peeling wallpaper. Which is actually two layers not just one.  Stripping wallpaper and pregnancy/newborns don't mix! Hopefully we'll get to it in the next year though.

I still need to add the nickel nailhead trim to the headboard and make the art for either side of the bed. The bedding will stay the same, I have a black and white herringbone blanket for the end of the bed and these fabrics will be added into the mix.

Top: David Hicks Pomegranate fabric for curtain panels

Bottom left: Ikat fabric for throw pillow for bed

Bottom right: Chinoiserie fabric (this fabric is much more chartruese in person!) for extra long lumbar pillow for bed, like the pillow below

This paint color for the walls:

Here is the other side of the room.

Black candles for the Tole sconces. The dresser and mirror will be getting a couple coats of emerald green paint, similar to this:

Here is a (very wrinkled) shot of our bedskirt. I'm thinking I may trim out the bottom edge with some black grosgrain ribbon eventually.

I still haven't decided on lighting yet.

This fixture is going in the nursery, but it's twin (minus the glass panels, they were broken) may get a coat of spray paint for our room.

So there it is........suggestions?

 Comments??
